Environment

Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) is a recognized world leader in environmental modeling and prediction.  Many of our models and algorithms have become de facto international standards for sensing, simulating, modeling and predicting phenomena in the atmosphere, land, ocean and space.  As environmental issues take on increasing significance and urgency for nations throughout the world, AER is able to apply our extensive research and development capabilities to addressing their critical concerns.

AER's environmental research is uniquely powerful in several ways:

Findings based on proven science.  AER technologies and research are based on rigorous, scientifically advanced algorithms, software simulation models and our extensive databases of environmental information.  Incorporating physics, data and modeling into our work reduces error and extends the applicability of environmental detection algorithms.  The result is a more complete understanding of the Earth's environment.

Unmatched global database of environmental information. AER is the only service provider of its kind with access to one of the most comprehensive mineable repositories of current, historical and predicted global environmental data.  These data include meteorological, atmospheric, oceanographic and space environmental information, as well as associated data from research and operational environmental satellites currently orbiting the Earth.

Innovative research for the National Science Foundation.  AER scientists have pioneered new approaches in basic science research for the National Science Foundation, including:

  • Seasonal forecasting
  • Radiation studies
  • Earth system dynamics
  • Sea level change
  • Critical weather events

In addition, AER was cited by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for its contributions to the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, which IPCC shared with Al Gore.
