Dr. Eli Mlawer's research Ground-based high spectral resolution observations of the entire terrestrial spectrum under extremely dry conditions published in the AGU's Geophysical Research Letters in May was selected as an Editors’ Highlight choice.
Dr. Mlawer and Dr. David Turner of NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory led a team that headed to a 5.3-kilometer altitude site in Chile to obtain measurements of radiation emitted by the Earth's atmosphere. These difficult-to-obtain observations will be used to improve our ability to predict climate. A summary and review of this research paper, Turner et al. (2012), can be found at the following link: For first time, entire thermal infrared spectrum observed.
