Since joining AER in 1987, Mr. Iacono has contributed to research in atmospheric radiative transfer and on weather and climate model evaluation and improvement. He leads the development of the accurate and efficient longwave and shortwave radiation model, RRTMG, and he is currently studying its impact on simulations with the WRF weather research and forecasting model. As a member of the DOE Atmospheric System Research science team, he has supported the expanding application of RRTMG to many global and regional models. Mr. Iacono has used spectral radiances observed from space to evaluate the simulation of water vapor in GCMs, and he is collaborating with MIT scientists to study the combined role of improved radiation and convection on climate simulations. He holds an M.S. in Atmospheric Science.
