Researchers at Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) contribute to the overall improvement of climate and weather prediction. Our scientists enable governments and businesses worldwide to understand, anticipate, manage and react to weather- and climate-related risk.

In addition to improvements in numerical weather forecasting, we study regional, hemispheric and global climate trends and climate change including how climate change will impact the severity and frequency of extreme weather. We leverage our data warehouse of global weather, climate and environmental data going back over a century.

Clients and colleagues use AER’s science, data, models and operational expertise in forecast and observational systems, global climate models, weather and climate risk analysis, and mission planning and operations. As a result, our clients can better protect people, property and the environment by providing more accurate weather models, earlier warning of weather perils and better understanding of the Earth’s dynamic climate.
